Supporting and Educating the UAE Community is My First Priority
I am a consultant Health Psychologist in Dubai, registered in New Zealand, and licensed by the Department
of Health and Medical Services in Dubai.
As a consultant to various businesses, hotels, a health insurance company, and one of the major hospitals in the region, it is my mission to lend my expertise to the people of Dubai, and the UAE, in the most effective way possible.
I arrived here nearly 5 years ago after completing an Honorary Research Fellowship at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) because I saw a great need for psychological support services in the health and medical community here.
I am on two committees- an Ethics Committee and a breast cancer support group committee ('Brest Friends')- and I have taught Psychology and Health Psychology at university level here.
I write regular contributions on Health Psychology related topics for some of the leading editorials, have presented at numerous seminars and conferences, and am a regular guest on both television and radio. See 'Related Websites' for some recent work.
I am committed to ongoing learning, and I do my best to keep up with the latest trends in health, as well as attending educational seminars and conferences where possible.
I have a particular interest in major diseases affecting people in the UAE- especially cancer and HIV / AIDs- and I am keen to do anything I can to raise awareness.
I also want to raise awareness on the importance of seeking help for psychological problems, and to decrease stigma and shame associated with seeing a 'shrink'. Believe me, as I stated previously, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a person who wants to sort out their problems and learn ways to improve themselves so they can experience a happy life and the feeling of being in much greater control.
From my past research, I maintain a strong interest in psychoneuroimmunology (the effect of the mind / brain on the immune system), and emotional control (a coping strategy involving the suppression of negative emotions).
